Flora & FaunaDue to its climate and geographic position, as well as relatively unpolluted environment, the island has a varied wildlife. It hosts up to 1,600 kinds of plants, 350 species of birds, and 26 different reptile and amphibian species. From February to June Northern Cyprus is covered by different kinds of flowers with orchids to be the most extravagant species from all. In spring and summer the island is 'invaded' by about 300 species of birds. From July till August the Green Sea Turtle and the Loggerhead Sea Turtle visit the beaches of Cyprus to lay their eggs (further information from Turkishcyprus.com).
Turtle Watching/HatchingAn invitation goes out to everyone to come down to view the excavations, we meet at the Goatshed (HQ), Alagadi for 5:30pm where we will take you down to the nest from there. No flash photography can be used during the excavation as not only does it potentially damage the eye sight of the hatchlings but will also show up the grubbiness of the volunteers!

If you would like to give us a call on the morning that you are hoping to see an excavation to see whether we have one on, please feel free to on: 05338798533.

Local Restaurants and Bars

Spice Gardenour closest restaurant, easily walkable, just across the main road at the bottom of the site. Great Pakistani food, but they will also cater for other tastes as required. The owner Khalid will show all European football matches, which can be watched from the bar or small seating area (watch out though, he’s an Arsenal fan!). There is often a quiz on a Monday night.

Down the Hill – popular restaurant famous for its tomahawk steaks. If you order a steak only order one between two people! A great experience for any special occasion. They have music on a Wednesday night.

Roots bar – Open Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, often with live music and a fantastic setting. A MUST visit. You can order take away pizza to be delivered to Roots. Ash and Hannah are the hosts who regularly update their facebook page.

Sea Breezea local Cypriot restaurant, offering typical meze and Cypriot food. A 15min walk or about a 3min drive situated on the old coast road towards Tatlisu. They do great fish and chips on a Wednesday night, along with “brilliantly awful” karaoke!

Eagle’s Nest - a stunning location ½ mile further along the old coast road from Sea Breeze. There is a lovely new bar area where they sometimes have live music on. Quite often a night club atmosphere, especially in the summer. You may have to book a table next to the terrace edge for the stunning nest views. Contact Veysel on WhatsApp - +90 533 832 0861.

Califorian - located in Maldives development walkable or 3 mins drive - There is also a small beach and a terrific pool at this location. Very modern and not unlike TGI Fridays. See Menu.

Double Geminiabout 3 min drive along the main road towards Tatlisu. This has more of a bar type feel and has 3 different TV’s playing European football matches. There is also a recycling ‘elephant’ that can be used here. They do a great fish & chips deal on Fridays.

Text Box: Cafe Paris
Diiva5 min drive towards Esentepe on the left. Serves Chinese food (take away available). Tel +90 533 885 2908. Food can be hit & miss though (they’re not Chinese!).

Café Parisvery modern café and bakery by a pool with fantastic views. Located in Esentepe. Just follow the signs from the village.

Esentepe Restaurant on the right up the winding hill towards Esentepe village. This unassuming family run café offers amazing views over the coastline and traditional kebab/meze dishes cooked over coals. Excellent value. Visit during sunset.

Tuncay in Yeri on the left past the Karaagaç turning (watch for the speed camera!), opposite Şençağ supermarket. If you’re looking for a full meze with a large selection of hot and cold meze dishes, along with a variety of kebabs – this is the place to come. So much food and great value.

Tumba Restaurant – located in the centre of Esentepe with great views and a large outside terrace

Remzi’s Family run restaurant in the middle of Esentepe. Great pizza to eat in or take away.

Cengiz's Restaurant & Bar – located in the village centre of Esentepe. Cengiz’s is a well established restaurant in a courtyard setting.

Korineum Golf & Beach Resort – Open all Day from 07.00 - 23.00. You can get anything from light bites to full al a carte with an international and traditional selection. Not as expensive as you would think. There are sometimes weddings in the grounds that can be viewed from the terrace. A most beautiful location.
